Flood damages are usually classified as tangible or intangible. Tangible damages are the replacement costs or monetary loans resulting from the effects of floodwater and debris on crops, soil, buildings, furnishings, goods, roadways, utilities and levees; the added costs of protective efforts, evacuation and emergency care; and losses due to the interruption of commercial activities. Intangible damages are those which are difficult to measure in economic terms, such as harm to life and health, inconvenience and discomfort etc.
