CO2 sinks

A carbon sink is any reservoir, natural or otherwise, that absorbs more carbon than it releases, and thereby lowers the concentration of CO2 from the atmosphere. Natural sinks are the Earth’s soil, vegetation and the oceans. While the creation of artificial sinks has been discussed, no major artificial systems can remove carbon from the atmosphere on a material scale.
